Dreamweaver

template given
saving as jpeg file
Transfering the photoshop finished products to dreamweaver wasnt as hard as i thought. I wqas given a template for both pages which allowed me to simply insert image in the template to create by website. My page was already broken down into three parts. The header, the main content and the banner.

1st

I opened my photoshop document, went to save as and saved it as a jpeg instead of a psd.

2nd

insert- image - find jpeg file
I opened up dreamweaver opened the document with my template and clicked on the content part of the image, then went to insert, scrolled down to image which then opened a finder where i searched for my jpeg copy of my finished product and click open. It then automaticly pasted my jpeg copy into the template.

3rd

I repeated the same routine for my header and for my banner.

Thursday, 5 May 2011

This is my finished website home page. I have added the feature i had created . I have used the combinations of the colours red, blue and white which matches with my title.

Main Website Page

Before starting my page.  I chose to make the features for the page before hand, here are a few features that will appear on my page.

This is an advert made on photoshop.

i chose this photograph to appear on my front page to promote a clothing company
i realized that many newspaper had weather updates about their local town. Therefore i chose to make a small weather forecast to appear on my page.  I design the cloud on photoshop. i also underlined 5 day forecast to make it look like a link.

This is my latest news features.. i chose to have a red tab at the top to colour coordinate with my newspaper tit;e

I have kept the fixed feature on this page like the second page of my newspaper. As you can see i used rulers to neatly organize my page, it help as it allowed the columns to neaten up the page. I placed the local weather at the top and made  different titles ready for the articles. I also repeated the advert of the abused dog.
I have taken on feedback from my peers.
I previously didn't have a title for my main article which i now had to add!

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

i decide to add the search directory onto the second page as it is on my first front page. I felt i needed to have it on the second page too to make it look like it is fixed onto every page of the website along with the different coloured titles on the top left hand corner of the page.

Feedback For Second Page of my newspaper website

This is my finished Second page of the newspaper website:

Feedback:

        Good Points
  • Covered the page well, no blank spaces
  • good choice of colours
  • Photographs are relevant
  • Advert are very well done, and relevant
      Bad Points
  • repeat of advert
  • clothes advert doesnt relate to the page
  • main article doesnt have a title

This is the main picture which will appaera on  my sports page. It will be the main article on the page representing american football

I am using this photograph as it will make the page look like it has a whole range of different sports including. I also chose this photograph as it was taken at home and this also gives the feeling that it is more personal to the reader as its ment to represent a local star.

With this photograph i will be using it to make an advert for my sports page. It is slightly irrelevant for this page but i have seen that not all adverts are relevent to the page topic. This will be a clothes shop advert.

Step 1
The first step, was working around the fixed features. My fixed features are the title on the left hand side of the page which will appear on every page of the website and also the search directory, which is needed on every page of the website.  My main article on the page is based on the photograph of american football. I made the photo take up a good majority of the page  to show that it is the main articles on this sports page.

Step 2

My Second step was adding the advert to surround the sides of the page and the bottom of the page. Once i had added these advert i realized i had little space for articles. I placed the photographs and wrote in the articles. I had previously seen on current websites that it  sometimes  occurs the they had repeating adverts, so i decided to see what my page would look like if i repeated the freeview advert on the blank space shown in the picture.I have chosen to use alot of green as it is associated with sport/football and outdoor activites. I have used green for the titles and for the online website advert. I feel that this page looks and identifies with other sports pages

Step 3

This is my finished page. I have replaced the search directory with a repeated advert.

Sunday, 1 May 2011

For the second page of my newspaper i have chosen to make it a sports news page.
Here are a few researched pages of newspapers sport website pages.

During my research i have realised that they contain a range of different sports other than just football. They also have a lot of advert on the sides of the pages. i chose to design some adverts whcih relate to the sports page!.

This is an advert of digital tv.
I got the idea from an original Virgin Media Advert Banner.
I thought a digital television advert was suitable for a sports page.
This advert is an advert for an online games website. This is suitbale for the sports page as it is sports related.
I have made a a few changes as to changing the photographs which i had temporarily put up and got from google, and replaced them with my own photographs.

This is when i realized that the font on the title and on the page is times font.
I previously took on feedback and changed the font on the newspapers second page to arial but hadnt look at which font i had used on the front page.

This means i will be changing the seconds page font back to times.

Evaluation of My media product

1) In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge the codes and conventions of current media products?

My media product has the qualities of current media products use. It uses the same conventions such as my newspaper front page used the same codes and conventions as current newspapers.  My ideas expressed through my product come from examples of my product. Using other examples gave me structure and showed me things i should and shouldn't include such as ideas of which kind of adverts to advertise through newspapers and it also gave me chance to look at how they are organized.  I didn't challenge the code and conventions as i wanted my products to be recognized and for  my audience to be able to identify it for what it is. For my website i used many features featured on current websites such as weather updates, business search directory. On the second page of the website which i made a sports page, i chose to use alot of green. After researching current sports pages for newspoaer website i saw that green was a colour used particulary for the sports page as it gives connotations of football and outdoor sports.

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

The quality of my main product is influenced by my ancillary task. It has improved qualities and shows a development of ideas. My anciallary task and my main products link very well. I have tried to keep the main product and the ancillary looking similar as in layout colours and font styles. The content included in the ancillary and the main product at first, i hadn't really looked at relating them in any way. I included different content oneach of  the products. The newspaper pages and website pages all contain different storylines.  The colours used in all the products are all very simliar and all contain the same range of colours, them being black red, white blue and green. This made it blend and recognisable that they are ment to be a part of each other.

3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

My audience feedback allowed me to make positive changes to my products. It allowed me to make improvement and progress by taking on the criticism along with the positiveness. During the progression of my products i chose to ask for feedback throughout the time of making to product. Therefore my product is based and formed around audience feedback. I couldnt take on all the feedback given as i wanted to keep my own personal opinion about it in without having to changing it due to feedback.
Collectiing feedback allowed people to give me new ideas that i hadnt thought of and include them in to improve my work. I have learnt that there is always room for improvement. I was given feedback for the second page of my newspaper" that i should change the text from times to arial but i hadn't taken into account which font i had used for the front page. therefore i had to adjust the font text twice and left it how it was originally.

4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?

I used media technologies throughtout the whole production of the ancillary and the main product. The one i used the most throughtout the whole project was photoshop. I found that it was quiet easy to use and effective. I used photoshop to make my Poster and  Website pages. I also found it effective to use to make all my adverts which i included in my newspaper pages and on the website pages. I had already had experience in using this software because of using it in the As media project. To make my tmobile advert/ banner i tried to use flash player as i wanted to make a moving image banner to place on my website page. I found it too hard to use Adobe flash player therefore i decided to just make the banner as a still image.  To make my newspaper pages i used indesign , i found it hard to get used to using but got the hang of it eventually.  The last software i ended up using was adobe dreamweaver. i found it very confusing. I transfered the files from photoshop to dreamweaver by saving for web and devices through photoshop. I was given a template which allowed my to copy and paste in my work in dreamweaver which i found easier. It broke up the headline the main content and the banner.

Main Page Website Research

The echo newspaper, it was noticeable that it was a local newspaper.
  • It has the weather update of Basildon
  • Latest Headlines
  • It is organized into three columns
  • Photograph takes a large space of the page.
Looking at the Newham Recorder, I found it was pretty similar to the Evening Echo. It has a local search directory, it also contains quite a lot of advert and banners about companies and things around the area. The headlines of stories are all pretty spaced out making it seems like there isn't that much on the page.  The page is separated into four columns.

The independent website had much more articles and headlines, the font as always much smaller than the previous newspapers. This newpaper is a national newspaper therefore has more news to give out this makes less space for many advertising.  It has a weather update of the capital London.

The metro is a free daily newspaper given out on Public transport. It is a local newspaper. Different editions are found in different parts of the UK. This is the local edition. The local weather update of London is there.

One thing i found different about the daily mail website page was that it had less banners and adverts . This may b that it is isnt a local newspaper and hold news from all over the uk and all the over the world which means it has more news to cover its page. I also realised it was well organised into three columns.

My finished Poster

I wanted to contain as little writing as i could. I made the background picture black and white so that the rest of the text stands out over it. I left a blank space for the readers to be able to read the word basildon. This shows that it is a local newspaper without having to write the word local as it shows it is only relevant to the Basildon Community.

I included the website on the poster as readers may wish to find information from the website.
The only colour on the poster is the name of the newspaper and i think the name of the newspaper is the most important part of the poster as it needs to be recognized it makes it the first thing you look at when you first glance at this poster.

The caption, i wanted to make it very personal to the reader so they feel like its their newspaper. By putting its your community, it makes the audience feel more personal and that its theirs, information in there is for them.I didn't want the black writing to clash with the black and white background therefore i made the writing capitals and bold.
 Step 1

I collected a photograph of the known basildon sign. Since my newspaper is a local newspaper for the basildon community.
i felt having such photo would make it more personal to the audience.

I also change the colour to black and white to five it the newspaper feel.

Step 2

Secondly i add my newspaper title surrounded by thin straight lines to make it stand out. I kept the title with colours as i feel the title is the main part of the poster.
It allows the name to stand out from the rest of the page.

The next thing i had to do was think of a short caption to finish the poster.
I wanted to keep the poster looking simple.

Step 3

The last part was thinking of a caption.
I decided to have " filled with all that there is to know, its your community"

I felt that it attract my audience as it was written in a way which comforted the audience as it uses words such as "your"

I used capital letters for it to stand out.

Research of Newspaper Posters

This advert doesnt have the newspaper name but shows the newspaper name by having a photograph of the paper. It lists what the newpaper includes. It has alot of blank space which makes everything easier to read.

This advert is slightly different from others, it consists of a lot of colours .

This newspaper advert is very simple and plain, simple colours Black red and white.
It includes the name of the newspaper a caption and shows the logo. The white background make everything on the page stand out and clear to read.

Made of One simple Photograph
And the name of the newspaper with short caption ' a short, sharp read"

Progression of my front page!

This was the original photograph which i edited and altered in my own way

On photoshop, i used the cloning tool to capture the exact same colour red that is on the picture.

I then used the paint brush tool to brush over the name woolworths and turn it into a plain rectangle.

i finally used the text tool to enter in my own name, i have now turn a original picture to my own editor version
